Here we list various projects, proposed, in progress or finished. Add some! Or modify existing ones.
To know more about possible funding go to the end of this list and read "Hed on money for projects".
Sensornets
Common to several purposed projects is the need for sensornets.
Active: Sebastian, Ged, you?
Master computer
For small nets a microcontroller such as an arduino might suffice.
For bigger nets a 'real' computer is needed:
- 5 mw at idle
- up to 6 com ports for automation allowing all sub sensor networks to be controlled from one master computer.
- dual gig nics, allowing multipath redundant connectivity.
- x64, with VT virtualisation, allowing web severing from this to control sensor and servo networks directly.
1-wire sensors
1-wire is a type of rather cheap digital sensors which derives their power from the dataline. Public domain C code is available.
There is already an arduino library available.
You can get samples shipped free of charge. We have ordered some.

Proposed projects
- AOE switch
- Clever (ask Ged) solar panel mounting
- Encrypted, homemade linux usb-live-disk
- A Kiosk of Piracy livecd
- Reflow owen
- RepRap
- Some people have talked about PCB printing, a lot of the equipment used can be built as projects (such as a tank or an UV box)
- RFID reader/writer/sniffer
RepRap
Both Labitat(copenhagen) and Forskningsavdelningen(malmoe) has offerd to help out with parts, but making the parts takes time and they also have other projects. However it would be nice to have them done for us.
PROGRESS:
Currently we're trying to build a list of all the parts and where to buy them as cheap as possible, the next step is to actually buy the parts and put them together.
TODO:
- finish the partlist
- acquire the parts that needs to be bought
- acquire the plastic parts
- mod the sanguino
- program the sanguino
- put the thing together
Talk to leth if you want to help out with the project.
Reflow oven
I would like to build a good reflow oven from a cheap household oven and some controller circuitry.
PROGRESS:
At the meeting that was the 14th of january 2010 we found a suitable oven that can be bought at jula, leth will acquire one soon.
TODO:
- See if we can make a good controller unit from an arduino.
- hack n' slash the owen so we can regulate the POWER!
- combine arduino with hack n' slashed owen.
Talk to leth if you want to help out with the project.
Automated greenhouse
There is a inherent conflict between our desire to fend for ourselves and our laziness. The solution is just a matter of code and some hardware.
This is big project involving several parts.
- Weather station
- Climate control
- Contruction details
- Software to glue it all together
- ...
Encrypted homemade usb-live-disk
Could be quite useful, one could include security tools and the like.
- Takes about an afternoon of fiddling to get done.
- Can be carried with you.
- We can have a cool bootsplash-image with the abbenay-logo.
- Great learning experience for the linux n00bs.
Hed on money for projects
Me name is Hed and I'm Admin and all around know-it-all when it comes to formal stuff.
We are a förening in UFS. UFS is a district in FUF (Young Researchers) and their purpose it to promote the interest of science and technology among young people (7-24). If you have a project, like say building a automated green house or visiting an interesting KTH-department to learn more about speech synthesis one can ask UFS or FUF for money to sponsor said event. That being said UFS and FUF don't always grant money but one can always try. We are a "förening" and asking for funding for our projects is one of the benefits from this.
I (Hed) will help with forms and such.
If there is anything anyone would like to ask the UFS board or want to contact FUF feel free to email Hed or simply post it in the Abbenay-email-list. I read the mailing list, especially if the subject is "Oh, please Hed do read this plz!".
